Little Pork Bun's Food Allergy Drama

Yesterday we took Little Pork Bun to an Allergy Testing appointment at Princes Margaret Hospital.

On one of my PERVIOUS POST I have mentioned that I fed Little Pork Bun one whole egg after he has turned 1 then later on found HIVES all over his body & was taken to the hospital.

So this time we're just having a Skin Prick Test to confirm if his allergy towards egg and also the doctor added on to test for peanuts as well, ever since his egg allergy reaction I have been very careful with what to feed him, so it's good to confirm things.

Little Pork Bun's Food Allergy DramaThe nurse gave him a stamp first, with little blocks

    Then numbered 5 little areas

Then the nurse dripped 5 different types of solutions in the five different square, then used a small piece of metal to prick the skin, so that the solution will have direct contact to his raw skin, by then he was screaming already.

The reaction was almost instant, he stared to have a small bump on all of the tested areas then they got bigger and bigger and bigger, after 15 minutes nurse measured he's bump the biggest one was 2cm in width and 1cm in height. That was just from one small drop of solution, imagine if he ate a whole egg last time.

So the test came back positive on both Egg and Peanuts, so my prevention on nuts was right after the egg incident, otherwise he would have gone to the hospital again.

Although the test looked a bit cruel cos he was screaming and screaming but I think it was necessary. The doctor gave us an Action Plan for Allergy Reaction, so I'll have to put he's photo on this piece of paper, get it photocopied, give it to whoever will look after him, including day care, kindergarden also school.

Doctor said Egg allergy usually will grown out of children by school age which is about 5 years old, but peanut allergy will probably be with him forever, but we will monitor that by having him checked every year to see if his reaction towards those two foods will improve.

。。哈哈!!

aw his arm is so tiny and the bumps look so big! i think it is a great idea u took him to get tests done so you know for sure what not to feed him and to inform others who care for him while u are gone. he is so adorable!

Oooh, I'm so sorry that Little Pork Bun had to undergo those tests, but they are necessary! Hopefully he will grow out from these allergies soon!

): D'aw, poor LPB. It must've been very hard for you as a parent to see your child like that, but it's better to have the test done now rather when something happens. Hopefully he'll be able to grow out of the egg allergy! :) I'd hate to imagine all the good food he'll miss if he couldn't take egg. D:

omg poor LPB :(( im glad you were able to test him before any major allergic reactions showed up though! i remember when we found out my brother was allergic to bee stings... he was poking the beehive which obviously agitated the bees... he got stung by one anddd hid from my parents cuz he didnt want to get in trouble. good thing my mom found him and realized what happened... the doctor said he would have died had we waited another 30 minutes :S

I've got a very bad shellfish allergy and I totally feel for little Pork Dumpling! When I was his age I was also violently allergic to cows milk too!

At least you found out early!

    Hi Ena,

Sorry that I haven't update on amir's condition. We currently lived in Malaysia and suprisingly amir's eczema almost gone.He only had several dry patches on his knees and ankles.I didn't control what I ate anymore and he still breastfeeding. We start to give him soy milk because I'm going to start working soon.I didn't control what he ate as much.his condition has improved a lot compared to when we were in Melbourne.I only use some Johnson's lotion on his skin probabyly like once a day.We did a second skin prick test before we left melb, and suprisingly, the test showed that he was also allergic to peanut, almond, and can't remember the other nuts. But we did gave him peanut butter before and I ate all kind of nuts but he never had any reaction to it.I think he still allergic to cow's milk and egg but the magnitude has reduced remarkably since we lived in Malaysia.I don't know how this happened but there is something about this humid wheather that actually good for his skin.I know how difficult and challenging it is to manage foood allergy in your baby. When I was in Melbourne,I feel like screaming everytime I go shopping tring to find food that doesn't have egg, milk, wheat and soy.I ended up buying foods for coeliac patient.I'm happy to see that Amir's condition has improved now and I hope LPB will outgrow his eczema very soon too.
