The reason I love balms is because they're so convenient for travelling, you can use it on all areas. The current weather in Perth is pretty cold, especially at night. I think this is the prefect time to do a review on these ointments, especially to compare them, hope it'll help you to make the right choice.

I do like to keep a few types handy around the house for both Little Pork Bun and I, for those harsh Winter dry skin. So I'm going to start from the left:

Papaya Ointment: This is a very common and in-expensive type of ointment in Australia, you can find them from all health food shops or pharmacies, this is a great natural type of ointment because papaya fruit is known for it's amins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes. When choosing an papaya ointment I always look out for one with out petroleum because It is commonly contaminated with Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHS). PAHS are strongly linked to a wide variety of detrimental diseases. It tends to interfere with the body's own natural moisturising mechanism, leading to dry skin and chapping.

Where to use it: Chapped skin, lips, nipples, great for cuts, protects your skin against harsh environment.

-------------------------------

Horse Oil: This is the little jar with gold lid and green label, this jar of ointment was a gift from Japan from our friends, they knew LPB suffers from Eczema since a little baby, so keeping him moisturised has always been a big thing for me. I must admit when I first got it I was a little sceptical, because it says Horse Oil, I thought to myself why Horse, why not Whales or Elephants :).

After researching I have realised that this is a fantastic product for people with dry skin, especially Eczema sufferers because Horse Oil has been used as a traditional medicine since ancient times, especially among the Japanese people. The structure of Horse Oil is very near to the under layer of derma structure of an human being, so it's so easy to absorb and extremely safe to use. Other than it's moisturising power it is also a great anti-ageing product, great for calming inflammation, as a barrier against germs. It also contains α-Linolenic acid, which is a natural type of antioxidant. Horse Oil is all natural, does not contain any man made products especially petrolatum.

Where to use it: Literally everywhere including cuts and burns, dry skin, Eczema skin, chapped lips, dry hair, inflamed acne, warm it in-between your palms and use it as a massage oil for aches and pains.

------------------------------

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream: I must admit this is not one of my favourite ointment, it's contains high level of petrolatum and on it's instruction it said do not apply on lips, which lost the purpose of an all purpose balm. I also do not like the smell of the balm, I find it's hard to blend even after warming up in-between my palms.

Where to use it: Everywhere except lips, I would use with care as it contains 56.8% of Petrolatum.

------------------------------

Smith's Rosebud Salve: This is a new ointment I got when I traveled to Singapore, so I haven't had too much experience with it yet. The reason I picked this one up is because it's been around since 1892, so I think it should be safe to use, it's main ingredients are Cotton seed oil (which is common and unlikely to create allergic reaction), Aromol™ (A blend of 22 types of essential oil inlcuding Rose oil tuth the name and the scent) and White Petrolatum, but The Environmental Working Group gives it a very low hazard rating (1 on a scale of 1 to 10), and there have been very few reports of allergic reactions to the product.

Where to use it: Cuts and minor burns, chapped skin and lips, fizzy hair. Smith's Rosebud Salve also has cosmetic uses like tame unruly brow line, subtle accent to cheek bones, collar bones and shoulders. Apply on eyes as base for powered eye shadow.

-------------------------------

My current personal favorite is Pure Nutraceuticals's Papaya Cream & Horse Oil, as they both are perfectly safe to use on baby, very moisturising and all purpose. The only thing is remember to keep them away from heat, they go a bit runny.

Hope you've find my review useful :) if you have any questions feel free to leave me a comment or send me an email.

Daily Outfit - Leather Shorts Take 1

I bought a pair of leather shorts from ASOS recently, I have been shopping around for one for a while now but I wanted one that has a good fit and reasonable price. So I have decided on this pair of River Island Red Leather Shorts, although the description said red but it's a maroon colour, which is great to go with most Winter dark colours, it's also a comfortable fit around the hip area, because figure hugging leather items gives a sex appeal which is not what I want to achieve. There's also this corset detail around the front seam of the shorts, which is really cute.

This look is fairly easy to create but there're few key points you'll need to beware:

1) Minimal Eye Shadow on upper lid

2) Intense line lower waterline, try to use a waterproof eyeliner

3) Concealor for the undereye area, because there're lots of shadows applied on lower lid, if you don't conceal properly this makeup will actually make your eyes look dirty, as in when makeup smudged.

4) Lighter eyebrows, I have applied an eyebrow cream from RMK (Also shown below) to lighten my eyebrows, as this makeup is all about eyes, you don't want your eyebrows to stand out.

5) Minimum or no blush

Makeup Used

I have recently posted on my Facebook page that I got a Clarisonic Mia from ry.com.au, just like everyone else I am extremely excited about it and tried it out straight away.

After this whole week of usage both day and night, I want to give it my honest review. I know there're tones of Clarisonic reviews online but there isn't much about how this machine should be used, especially on sensitive or acne pron skin.

Facts:

The instruction said I could use this twice a day, it came with a Clarisonic gentle cleanser, also a sensitve brush head. It is very easy to use, just one speed, one button to turn on and off. The machine is perfectly safe to use in shower, it is also very light weight and compact so you could bring it to traveling.

There's also an instruction telling you how long to spend at each area of your face, 20s on forehead, 10s on nose, 10s on chin, 10 on 1 cheek and 10 on the other cheek. The machine turns itself off after 60 seconds.

I also bought the delicate cleansing brush just to try it out.

I'm going to start with the bad stuff first

When I first posted about wanting to buy a Clarisonic on my facebook page a Facebook fan said she would recommend me not to get the deep pore cleansing brush, she likes the sensitive brush as it's much gentel on skin. And I am so so so glad that I have listened to her!!.

I have tried out the Clarisonic machine by using it day and night for a week now, it does a fantastic job with cleaning/exfoliating but I find even with the sensitive brush it is still too strong for my skin.

I have combination skin, the skin on my cheek area is thiner and more sensitive comparing to my T-zone, I find it goes really red and you can see tinny little blood vessels (capillaries) after cleansing, so I've been avoiding that area now.

I also love this machine to bits but you really need to study your own skin and adjust and build Clarisonic into your own routines.

I think this machine is great for all skin types, especially Oily and Dry as it really does scrubb off all dry dead skin, oil, impurities and makeup residues, so it's a really strong cleanser.

I also think it would also be great for people who has old acne scar, as the brush's scrubbing motion will stimulate your scared skin make it 'alive' again, then when this happens you can start concerntrating on applying acne fading skincare products.

It also helps with product assorbtion after as the brush shredds all your dead skin cell, leaves your new skin layer exposed so if you do the right thing by applying good daily skincare routines I think it'll eventurally improve your skin textures.

My Recommendations:

I have now figured out how to use this machine my way to get the most benefit out of it at the same time not harming my skin.

1) I would only use it 3-4 times a week or once at night only (on the days of wearing make up)

2) I would also reduce the cleansing time spent at each area, maybe 10s for the forehead, 10 for nose, 10 for chin but 2s for each of the cheeks and maybe spend the rest of the time on my neck.

3) I would concerntrate a little bit on my old acne scars and pigmentations, as I belive over time it'll improve it's texture and colour, so this is when people say your skin will get worst first then get better late.

4) As I still find the sensitive brush too strong for me, I'm going to switch to the delicate brush in the future.

5) I would also only use the Clarisonic only with a gentle/sensitive skin cleanser, as the action of this machine is already very strong, I think by using it in conjuction with products with Salicylic acid, which a lot of those acne cleansers does, it might aggrevate your skin and make it worse, in other words "OVER CLEANED"

Clarisonic and Acne

I know a lot of people got this machine to try to improve their acne condition or old acne scars, I personally think this machine would really help but there're few warning signs so I'll just list them below:

1) DO NOT OVER CLEAN - If you still currently have acne don't over cleanse your skin, as the more you scrubb the more it's going to aggrevate your skin, all those cleaning might trick your skin into thinking it needs extra protection and start to produce more oil to protect it. Or because there're broken areas and makes your skin more inflamed.

2) HYDRATION - This is really really important for those who have acne skin, as the Clarisonic gets rid of your dead skin really well and cleanses into your pores, leaving your skin especially your pores expose to air. Straight after cleaning you'll need to restore water back in, if you're using a toner don't use those with Alcohol or with Salicylic Acid, as you don't need to strip anymore natural oil or dead skin cells off, try to use a gentle hydrating toner then apply moisturiser.

3) SUN PROTECTION - This is also very important as when our new skin layer is exposed it's extremely easy to get new pigmentations and sun damage.

Hope this has helped you making a decision with buying the Clarisonic, I think it is a fantastic tool but seriously don't over clean your skin & use it wisely!

IU Natural Makeup Tutorial

I have been really into IU a young korean singer's natural makeup recently, she is extremly talented and cute!! I have tried my best to create that nude eye look, it's actually pretty hard as you are not not using makeup, infact you are using just as much make up as before but you'll need to be extremely light handed so that there's a wash of colour to contour your eyes, cheeks and lips.

Okie lets get started!!

Here's the before and after, remember to use light stroks, you can always add on more, this is not about deep setting sexy eyes, it's just clean, young and fresh look.

I have used 3 colours from the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palate, Bootycall, Chopper and Snakebite, as you can tell from the instructions below I only used a light wash of colour.

Once you are done with the eye shadows, tight line your eyes, extend your line out a little bit, not too much as we're not trying to create droopy innocent eyes. Then add mascara no faulse eye lash needed, with eye brows I have just darkened my natural eye brows with an eyebrow pencil as mine are pretty thick but if you have thiner eye brows I would suggest to thicken it for this natural look.

These are the prodcuts used:

I try to keep my tutorial posts shorter now, I have condenced loads of step by step pictures into an instruction frame as I think it's easier to explain and to look at.

Hope you have enjoyed it :) Let me know if you have any questions!

Modo Mia @Burswood Entertainment Complex

Nothing compares to a great catch up with friends over dinner, this time we wanted to try the newly opened MODO MIA Italian restaurant at Burswood Entertainment Complex.

The interier decoration of this place is superb, it's great for both date night or family dinner. My usual impression of a tasty Italian restaurant is lot's of noise, very hot (because of the pizza oven), not to give too much expectation on service cos it's just always so busy but the delicious MODO MIA does not compromise on any of those points mentioned above.

It's got a pizza oven built inside of the restaurant to give you that most authentic wood fire pizza, a luxrious bar area where you can sit and wait for your friends, extremly nice and professional service and you don't have to scream over the table to talk to your friends yeahh

That night we had LOTS of food.
